Premier's Reading Challenge

Visit to Glen Iris Primary by a Premier's Reading Challenge Ambassador Gabrielle Wang

VPRC Montage

On Monday 20th, students participating in the Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge had the opportunity to meet author and Ambassador Gabrielle Wang and learn more about how she writes books. We were proud to be chosen to meet a Reading Ambassador.

The aim of the Challenge is to promote a love of reading. It is not a competition, but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Challenge begins at the start of the 2009 school year and officially ends on 31 August 2009. Students in Prep to Year 2 who accept the Challenge need to read or experience 30 books during this period. Students in Years 3 to 10 who accept the Challenge must read 15 books during this period.

Gabrielle Wang offers some advice on her webpage, ‘Imagination is an incredible ability we humans have. It allows us to invent things, to create works of art, to look into the past and see into the future, to feel how someone else feels. But it needs constant exercise. Reading is a great way to help our imaginations stay active. So when you read, read slowly so that pictures have time to form in your mind then whole new worlds will open up to you.’      http://www.education.vic.gov.au/prc/keypeople/ambassadors/wang.htm
