School Community
Glen Iris Primary School, established in 1865, is a family and community oriented school serving families in the Glen Iris and surrounding areas. In 2009 student enrolment is 416, with 300 families and 17 classes.The highly motivated and professional staff members provide a sound education that fosters a love of learning and encouragement for individuals to excel. Numeracy and Literacy are at the core of an integrated curriculum that includes Science, Technology, Health and Physical Education, The Arts (visual and performing) and French.
Educational
Confidence in using the Victorian Essential learning Standards (VELS) and related support tools such as the Learning Continuums, incorporating Principles of Learning and Teaching (PoLT) have enabled staff to develop integrated units of study that incorporate all aspects of the curriculum, including ICT, in a seamless way, invigorating the curriculum offered and increasing levels of student engagement. Parents and teachers meet for two formal parent/teacher interviews each year and Three-way conferences (Parents, Student and Teacher) at Level 4 have been introduced.Technological
Students at Glen Iris Primary have access to a computer infrastructure that is consistent across all classrooms and the Information Resource Centre with 5 computers in each classroom in a student/computer ratio of 1:5. Interactive Whiteboards have been placed in four areas while three data projectors are also available. Students also have access to digital cameras, digital microscopes, scanners and other technologies. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is incorporated into all curriculum planning and has become an integral part of the learning environment.Environment
The refurbishment of the main building is complete. The areas between the two sets of portables have also been enclosed creating additional learning areas for the four classrooms in each set.The grounds, buildings and facilities are well maintained and include:

- Networked computers in all classrooms
- Computer laboratory with 25 computers
- Art craft room
- Well resourced library
- French room
- Music room
Following extensive discussions and planning, the school has access to a purpose built multi-purpose room/Before and After Care facility with instrumental rooms, that is part of the Uniting Church project on the land next to the school. This facility is leased by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development for sole use by the school. The school uses the Assembly Hall 3 times per week, with an additional 3 times per term for school community events.
