Boroondara Bubble Book

Boroondara Libraries are hosting online workshops for children aged 4–12 living in Boroondara in order to create one book holding Boroondara children’s reflections on this strange time – when homes, balconies, parks and local streets became the whole world.

Boroondara Libraries are hosting online workshops for children aged 4–12 living in Boroondara in order to create one book holding Boroondara children’s reflections on this strange time – when homes, balconies, parks and local streets became the whole world.

In each workshop, Trace will facilitate a fun activity in which everyone’s ideas, memories and feelings will be valued. CChildren will create their own illustrations and small stories about lockdown. The themes and ideas expressed by the children, led by Trace, will then be gathered up, collated and designed by Kids’ Own Publishing into a children’s picture book of the children's own art and ideas.

A contribution from every participating child will appear in the book. Once published, the book will be available for viewing at each Boroondara Library, and will be celebrated in an online reading in late 2020.

Trace Balla is the much-loved author of RockhoppingRivertime and Landing with Wings. In 2020 she has written her own response to lockdown – The Heart of the Bubble – a touching tale of a family’s awakening to what really matters.

Open to children of families living in Boroondara

This workshop is free but places are limited. It is important for children of the correct age to attend the correct sessions. Upon enrolling in this workshop, participants will be emailed a pdf copy of Trace Balla’s ‘The Heart of the Bubble’ story.
