The symbols in this artwork represents Birrarung, the Yarra River, and the traditional stories of First Nations People. Bunjil, the creator spirit of Wurundjeri, soars over its winding path, flying through the wind and rain.

The colours in Aboriginal flag were used in the process of gel plate printing.

Our acknowledgement was also a collaborative effort by the students at GIPS:

We cherish the land of the Wurundjeri People on which Glen Iris Primary School gathers.

We respect and care for our community where we learn and play.

We acknowledge the elders who continue to watch over this country as they have done for thousands of years.

Glen Iris Primary School embraces the vision of the Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan and celebrates the culture, knowledge and experiences of First Nations Peoples. We are committed to creating and maintaining a school environment that empowers Koorie students to feel valued, respected and culturally strong. This Art piece and GIPS Acknowledgement of Country  demonstrates an appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
