Foundation (Prep Enrolments)

At Glen Iris Primary School, we understand that choosing a school to give your child the best start to their education journey is a big decision.  We endeavour to ensure that every child makes a successful transition to Primary School, and that the promotion is a trouble-free and happy experience.  Parent participation and involvement is actively encouraged and appreciated, and we welcome the opportunity to show you what Glen Iris Primary School has to offer you and your child.

Our school zone

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria.

Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.

Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) has a statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline.

The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Glen Iris Primary School.

You can find information and resources about the enrolment timeline and procedures at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep).

A Fact Sheet can be found here.

Once you have reviewed the above process, please click on the link below to obtain a copy of the Glen Iris Primary School Enrolment Form.   A copy of your child's birth certificate and immunisation certificate should also be attached when sending in your application.  If you have any other queries, please contact our school office on 9885 3624.

Prep "Take Off" Transition Program

In Term 4 of this year, the 2023 Prep students will attend school for four "Take Off" Transition sessions. There is one session per week for four weeks, and each session lasts for an hour. These sessions will help introduce the students to the school environs, help them make friends, and allow the Prep teachers to get to know the incoming students.

At the same time as the students are participating, we offer information sessions for the parents on subjects such as preparing to start school, uniform information, and so forth.

All kindergarten children are invited to join us for a Pre-school Storytime session in the school library. Held by one of our teachers, the children will listen to a story and then do an activity.

You may attend as many of the sessions as you wish, to help the children begin to familiarise themselves with the school environment.

Parents must stay with their children for the duration.
